Simple Sunday #19 – Artistically Inked

Welcome to my Sunday series, affectionately known as Simple Sunday! The aim of this series is to showcase projects using minimal supplies, ideal for the beginner crafter or someone new to Stampin’ Up! Each project is a white card base with a 3×3 panel decorated using a single stamp set or die set. This week’s project features the Artistically Inked Bundle that you can purchase from the Annual Catalogue.

The suite that this bundle forms part of caught my eye immediately, it is absolutely gorgeous. The stamps, the dies, the Designer Series Paper (DSP) and the ephemera are individually and collectively stunning. It was the first thing that went onto my wish list – mainly because it features on the front cover of the catalogue itself. But that side, it is simply gorgeous.

With its dist-INK-tive stamps, you get a lot of texture and layers on your card with the smallest amount of effort, and beautiful results every time. I don’t think I’ve made a card using this set that hasn’t looked nice because of the stamp set.

Mini Chocolate Jars

In the past, I haven’t been the biggest fan of the packaging that Stampin’ Up! has sold. Not because I felt the packaging was rubbish or because I didn’t like it – but because I felt I could make my own. However, Stampin’ Up! then decided to release cute packaging like these jars that form part of the Life’s a Peach suite – they are really, really good for last minute gifts and do fit a surprising amount of treats in them.

From the image in the catalogue, you would think these treat jars are tiny but they are a good size – which you will see in my video below.

Mine are going to be used as thank you gifts to pop on tables in my workplace, but you could use them for absolutely anything. I have seen other demonstrators pop jam, curd or marmalade in them and add a Designer Paper Series lid. They are cute in every instance.

Watercolour Friendship

Being a crafter means you explore different techniques as a way of finding the best finish for your project. I haven’t done much of this lately, so decided to branch out into water colouring by ordering some Fluid100 paper and some water painters, and diving straight in. The great thing about Stampin’ Up! is you can use the ink pads or refills as paint. Pop a bit of ink onto a block and use that with your water painter to create a water colour look – it’s messy but fun!

I wasn’t too sure what I was going to produce when I first started, but felt a floral set was a good place to begin. Flowers of Friendship has a lovely large floral piece in it, so I kicked off by creating a watercolour background that would help the flower to ‘pop’.

Experimental playing then produced the card on show today, it was fun and I would certainly recommend it! You might just see more watercolour cards from me in future. Or perhaps I will push the boundaries and experiment with other techniques cos I’ve been bitten now.

Friend Forever Fold Flat Box

There are occasions when you need a box that’s already prepared and ready for you to pop a gift inside. Perhaps you know you are gifting multiple items in the future and need to store the boxes ahead of buying the gifts to go inside? Box storage can take up quite a bit of space within a craft room, so these boxes are ideal for that purpose as they fold entirely flat and can be made up when ready to gift.

Don’t be scared by it’s small size, it can fit a nice amount in and is very easy to open and close. Made from Designer Series Paper, it means you can switch out the paper to suit the occasion, along with the sentiment, colours – absolutely everything! Very, very adaptable and customisable.

There aren’t many boxes that I make from paper, I usually make bags or pouches with paper. But it works really well and holds it’s shape with the belly band. The sentiment makes me giggle too! Which colour way did you prefer and will you be making one?

Printed Welcome

Now isn’t this a fabulous sheet of patterned paper? I’m not a massive fan of pink (or animal print), but this piece of Designer Series Paper (DSP) really stood out to me when I flicked through the packet. The best part? This is a sheet from a pack of paper that you can earn for free with Stampin’ Rewards.

Stampin’ Rewards are earned when you spend £150 or more on a single order via my online store. Once you hit the £150 value, you get 10% of your order back in rewards. For this particular pack of paper (called Pattern Party), you need £17 of rewards to redeem – that means a minimum order of £170. Which, let’s face it, is easily done on the Stampin’ Up! store as the items are so lovely and the quality is amazing.

I hadn’t used vellum in a long time, so decided to pull out a sheet and add that onto the card too. Thrown in with a few of my favourite embellishment – the bumblebees and you have a bit of a different card, a little quirky but fun nonetheless.

Simple Sunday #18 – Count on Me

Welcome to my Sunday series, affectionately known as Simple Sunday! The aim of this series is to showcase projects using minimal supplies, ideal for the beginner crafter or someone new to Stampin’ Up! Each project is a white card base with a 3×3 panel decorated using a single stamp set or die set. This week’s project features the Elegantly Said stamp set that you can purchase from the Annual Catalogue.

The cute little animals in this set are what drew me towards it in the Annual Catalogue. I’ve said previously that my son is a massive fan of penguins, so having a penguin included in the set was also a bonus. This is my first time using this stamp set as although I was instantly drawn towards it, I wasn’t sure how to use it on a card. When I hit blocks like this, I turn to my Simple Sunday template / style as it allows me to be minimalist and get the ideas flowing.

In the end, I made three different versions of the card using the bear, the kangaroo, and the penguin. All of them with blended backgrounds to help them ‘pop’ from the card base. I didn’t really need to do much more than that to the cards as the blended background gave them enough dimension (as well as added dimensionals). Very quick to make and can be a range of colours with the sentiments mixed up with the images to make numerous different variations.

But which one is your favourite? I think mine is the penguin, I love how he pops from the blue background.

Triangular Mini Cards – Part 2

Whoop, Part 2 of the triangular hinge box and mini cards is here – today being the turn of the mini cards. If you didn’t catch Part 1, you can view my previous post which contains all the details of the hinge box including the video tutorial. Today’s tutorial focuses on the mini cards to fit inside the box – six of them to be exact.

The great thing about the cards is you can change the colours and sentiment to suit any occasion. I focused on birthday cards for this particular box, but there’s nothing to stop anyone from turning them into thank you cards, invitations or cards ready for a random act of kindness. They’re such a good size you can keep them ready for any occasion.

Now which colour do you prefer – the first example is Cherry Cobbler and the second is Misty Moonlight. I think I prefer the Cherry Cobbler ones, I’ve always been a fan of Cherry Cobbler and the Designer Series Paper combined with the cardstock looks brilliant.

Triangular Mini Cards – Part 1

I love Mini Cards – there I said it. Whilst you can’t post mini cards because of their mini nature, they are the cutest thing to hand out. Perfect for keeping in a bag, pocket or drawer to hand out as necessary or as a random act of kindness. You can box them and gift the box of cards to someone for them to use themselves – so many different options!

The box and matching cards were designed when we were transitioning between catalogues and the one item I knew was going to be in the new Annual Catalogue was the 6×6 Colour Family Designer Series Paper stacks. Cherry Cobbler hasn’t featured on a project of mine in a little while, so it just had to be used.

It is made from a single sheet of A4 cardstock, including the hinge – which I love. I have seen a lot of hinged boxes like this where the tutorials show you how to make it with multiple pieces of cardstock or paper, but never where you can make it from a single sheet. So I’m pretty impressed that I managed to work out how to do it (I won’t tell you how many sheets of retired card stock I used whilst practising). But I figured it out and I LOVE the result.

Heroes in a half shell…

Flashes of inspiration, I love them! That’s exactly what happened with this card. I had made a differing turtle card (which will also be on my blog) and whilst making it, a TV show I watched as a small child came to mind.

If you are a child of the 1980s / 1990s (or had small children during that time), then you may recognise where my inspiration came from. Four turtles by the names of Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo and Raphael alongside their mentor Splinter and friend, April were one of my favourites TV shows.

Whilst there is a punch for the turtles, I decided to fussy cut mine so that I could accommodate the additional of the eye masks, coloured using my Stampin’ Blends in Poppy Parade, Night of Navy, Pumpkin Pie and Rich Razzleberry. I absolutely love them!
